Former photojournalism professor Joe Swan dead

Former SJSU photojournalism professor Joe Swan, 78, died Sunday.

Swan taught in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications from 1963 to 1991.

Within the last year, Swan had both legs amputated and was on dialysis, a process of filtration used when the kidneys stop working, because of complications from diabetes.

He stopped dialysis over one month ago.

  1. I spoke to Joe before the end of last year and before his first operation. I regret not calling him as he convalesced. He was always dedicated to his students and teaching was his life. I think it’s safe to say all his former students had a soft spot in their heart for him.
